Congratulations TIM MURRAY: March CrossFitter of the Month

  • **CONGRATULATIONS TIM MURRAY our March CrossFitter of the Month!**
    About Tim:
I want to start by saying what an honor it is to have this designation bestowed on me. So many people walk through that door on a day to day basis busting their… asses at full throttle; so to be recognized among them is truly humbling.
So, CrossFit and I have and an interesting relationship. I found CrossFit about three and a half years ago. I’d heard about it from a co-worker, about how great it was and how no matter what your background it’ll crush you. Of course, I thought “Psh, I’m already in great shape, I’m a long distance runner” and didn’t give it another thought for a while. Well, several injuries led to a pretty unhealthy  lifestyle which led to depression.
During all of this, in July of 2010 my mother passed away very suddenly from a heart attack at only 52 years old. I didn’t know what to do, how to grieve, how to deal with this new normal. I needed some kind of escape, something that wouldn’t allow me to think about what was going on in my life, a challenge that would make me an all around stronger person. That’s when I walked into CrossFit for the first time and haven’t looked back.
Since then, CrossFit has been my escape during employment uncertainty, grad school stress, relationship troubles, tough students and worse parents and one particularly difficult Stanley Cup loss. It hasn’t always been easy, in fact it never is, but from the outset, CrossFit has provided be with a healthy option to step away from whatever is going on in my life and just, in a totally warped sense that only those reading this will understand, relax. Now, at CFW, with this unbelievable group of people, I really can’t imagine walking into another gym. As Rob is known for saying, at CFW “bodies are changing” but for me, it goes further than that, lives are.
Before this gets too long, I want to thank a few people. Obviously Rob and Ron, you guys are the heart of this place and I couldn’t ask for a better pair of coaches, fellow athletes and friends. All my coaches and friends over at CrossFit Cheshire; you guys run a first class operation and have a membership second to none, thank you. Also, I’d be remiss if I didn’t thank Greg Dillon. Greg was the first guy I met when I started CrossFit and is a major reason why I kept coming back. He’s a great coach, a better person and a true Notre Dame Man. He also once told me, while doing a push up, that I looked like “a baby giraffe trying to walk for the first time.” He wasn’t wrong.
Thank you all again so much.
