The 2013 CrossFit Games Open

  • On March 6, 2013 the CrossFit Games Open will start. Last year almost 70,000 athletes representing 73 countries competed to see who would be crowned the Fittest on Earth. For five weeks each athlete participated in the five Open WODs designed to provide the ultimate test of strength, speed, skill, and mental toughness.

  • Each week, CrossFit Wallingford will participate by hosting the Open WOD on Fridays (makeup on Saturdays, if needed). You can register to compete in the Open here (be sure to indicate CrossFit Wallingford as your affiliate). If you’ve taken part in the Open before or if you just completed On Ramp, competing in the Open is a great opportunity to assess your strengths, evaluate your weaknesses, set goals, and witness some truly outstanding athleticism.

  • You might think you’re not ready for the CrossFit Games but the Open is for everyone. Even if you’re not Rich Froning, Jr or Annie Thorisdottir (yet!) the Open has something for you.

Reasons to Enter in The Open

    1. It will up your game. You are participating in the biggest CrossFit competition there is. Whether it’s your first time or you’re aiming for Regionals, you will push yourself harder than you thought you could go.
    2. You’ll remember the fundamentals. You’ll need all the energy you have to complete these WODs, getting a “No Rep” for failing to meet the movement standards is a huge incentive to keep proper form. You’ll break parallel on those wall balls, you’ll get full hip extension on your box jumps because no one wants to repeat a rep when you’re already giving all you have.
    3. You’ll be part of a community. Chances are you’ll be partnering up to count reps for the Open WODs. You’ll find yourself wanting success for your partner, whether they’re your friend or an athlete you just met, just as much as you want your own success. You will yell, cheer, and push your partner to the end and be thankful for their support when it’s your turn. As partners, as a class, as a box — having taken part in the Open as a group will build mutual respect and pride.
    4. It will prepare you for anything. When you look back and know that you gave your all for 5 weeks of solid competition it will make you believe you can handle whatever comes your way. If it’s a local competition or the middle of a regular Tuesday-night WOD, you will know that you persevered through some of the most challenging workouts there are. You may find that mental toughness carries over into your every day life, too.

  • When the winners take the podium this year you’ll know exactly what it took to get them there. You will have completed the same Open WODs that they did and will appreciate the dedication and persistence the elite athletes have in order to win. Enter today and experience the very best CrossFit has to offer you physically, mentally, and as a community.
