**CONGRATULATIONS TODD BAILEY! Our June CrossFitter of the Month!**

About Todd:

Prior to being exposed to CrossFit, my understanding of exercise and/or work-outs consisted of the notions that self-motivation was the only reliable source for making progress, and also, if the experience was fun, then I must be doing it wrong.

I visited CFW with a friend during a promotional drop-in day in April of 2014. As with most new experiences, I was extremely fearful and most likely didn’t say a single word for the entire hour. Coach Ron and all the participants were very accommodating. It appeared that the class members that morning were life-long friends based on the laughter, and had been working out together for years based on the mutual support and comradery. Everyone did their best to make me feel welcome, but I didn’t want to intrude on what appeared to be a team that was a long time in the making, so I found a spot in the corner as to not interfere. I later found out that most of the members in that morning class on that day were rookies like me. At any rate, I completed the class and went about my day. The following day I felt a sense of accomplishment, not to mention a post work-out soreness like no other exercise program had ever produced. Despite a history of surgeries and injuries I knew crossfit was for me and I began on-ramp classes the following Tuesday.

After attending CFW for 8 months, it was clear that a long overdue shoulder surgery was holding me back, not only at the box, but in my everyday activities as well. I had the surgery on December 5th 2014. Three weeks later I returned to CFW with my right arm in a sling, but eager to get moving again. The CFW coaches all took the time each day to help me modify the daily workouts during my rehabilitation period to keep my shoulder safe, and my CFW classmates supported my efforts which when combined, created a true judgement free zone.

Over the past two years at CrossFit Wallingford I have been able to shed some pounds and keep them off, but more importantly CFW has helped me rid myself of a twenty year smoking habit, give me the confidence to enter and enjoy charitable events including 5K runs and obstacle courses, and has played a key role in conquering my social anxiety.

Every morning I still work out in the same corner where I was the very first day so I don’t forget how far I have come.

Thanks

Todd B.
