June CrossFitter of the Month: Jessica D’Angelo

  • June’s CrossFitter of the Month is Jessica D’Angelo. Jess has been with us from the beginning and has been a great addition.  Jess is a great athlete, but more importantly she is an even better person and is always encouraging to the other members.  Thank you Jess for being at CFW.  Keep up the great work!
  • Just over 2 years ago was when I decided to start my CrossFit journey! In 2010 I had a baby and although I lost my pregnancy weight pretty quickly my body had changed. I had no muscle tone left and I wasn’t comfortable in my clothes. After my daughter turned 1 is when it seemed every where I turned someone was talking about or signing up with CrossFit. At first I thought there was no way I could do the things they do and I was so intimidated by what I saw. My husband convinced me that I should give it a try and
so I did. It turned out to be one of the best decisions I ever made. It only took one On

Ramp for me to know I was addicted to this type of working out.

I have had gym memberships for as long as I can remember but I never truly committed

to any type of program. I am happy to say that I have pretty much worked out at least 3x

a week for the past 2 years. I even stuck with CF through 35 weeks of pregnancy and

was back at it after only 3 weeks of having the baby. I really loved the workouts and I

was doing well but I seemed to have settled with what I thought I was capable of.

In January I had heard 2 of my husband’s co-workers (Ron and Rob) were going to be

opening CrossFit Wallingford. Although I was happy with where I was I figured it would

be nice to support them and I also liked that they wanted to keep things on a smaller more

personal scale. I had told them how I felt like I was stuck and thought I should be able

to do more. One of my goals was to do a pull up and even after a year and a half I was

still using a purple band. Rob showed me right away that I had to work on my technique

and he and Ron really took the time to help me with it. It was less than 2 weeks before I

was able to get my first unassisted pull up and I haven’t used a band since. I have made

such tremendous progress in the few months I have been at CFW and I know Ron and

Rob are the reason for that. They both are so motivating and encouraging and just great

coaches! They know when to push to make you better because they have taken the time

to get to know you! The members also share their enthusiasm which has been such a

bonus! There is nothing better than getting some words of encouragement or excitement

from other people who you don’t even normally work out with! I am a 5:30 am’er and I

have been motivated by people who I have only met once or twice. I only hope that I am

offering that same kind of support back. The camaraderie and accountability of CrossFit

is something you won’t get from any gym or workout at home. As excited as I get to RX

a workout it is more about the people I get to work out with and making myself a better

me. It feels really great to be recognized for something I am having so much fun with!!

    Thank you Ron and Rob!!
